Six basic human needs.

Written by Michael Angier
Tony Robbins has identified six basic human needs and believes everyone is—or can be—motivated by their desire to fulfill these needs.
You may want to consider these needs when thinking about developing and delivering products and services to people. The question to ask is, "What need or needs does my product fulfill for my customer?"
1. Certainty/Comfort. We all want comfort. And much of this comfort comes from certainty. Of course there is no ABSOLUTE certainty, but we want certainty the car will start, the water will flow from the tap when we turn it on and the currency we use will hold its value.
2. Variety. At the same time we want certainty, we also crave variety. Paradoxically, there needs to be enough UNcertainty to provide spice and adventure in our lives.
3. Significance. Deep down, we all want to be important. We want our life to have meaning and significance. I can imagine no worse a death than to think my life didn't matter.
4. Connection/Love. It would be hard to argue against the need for love. We want to feel part of a community. We want to be cared for and cared about.
5. Growth. There could be some people who say they don't want to grow, but I think they're simply fearful of doing so—or perhaps NOT doing so. To become better, to improve our skills, to stretch and excel may be more evident in some than others, but it's there.
6. Contribution. The desire to contribute something of value—to help others, to make the world a better place than we found it is in all of us.
Action Point
Evaluate this list to better understand your personal motivations and examine which ones seem the most significant to you. Then, look at what you do to fulfill the needs of others. It will likely make a difference in what and how you do what you do. It also should make a difference in the way you describe and explain what you and your product can do for those you serve.

I gave up giving gifts at the holidays years ago.

By Terri Cole
With Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, incessant commercials for blow out sales, and morning shows informing us about this holiday’s “it” gifts, we are inundated with the message that giving stuff equals love.
There can be intense pressure to find the perfect present for friends and loved ones to accurately express our feelings for them. Are you pressured by family tradition to come up with a list of what you want for Christmas/Hanukkah/etc., even if you don’t truly need or want anything? It is easy to get caught up in the consumer hype when it’s all we see and hear from now until December 25th.

But you can choose a different way of celebrating this year.

I gave up giving gifts at the holidays years ago. I don’t express my feelings well with stuff, as it rarely accurately conveys how I feel. I value shared time and experiences. Since my three inherited sons and their growing families are scattered around the country, my husband and I happily share airline miles, gift them airfare, or rent a vacation place so we can all be together. When grand babies are born (three so far), we start a stock account and add money as we can.
Making the heart connection by spending quality time with those we cherish is a gift to all of us. I have faith that during the holidays, the little kids, and the big ones for that matter, will get plenty of stuff from others, and I am grateful they don’t expect it from us. They are also not surprised when a signed book they mentioned shows up in their mailbox in May or if we spontaneously surprise them with a trip or a nice meal at a restaurant for no occasion other than to be with them.
A couple years ago, I had a client struggling with the stuff equals love conundrum. She was a very dutiful, loving only child who walked into her appointment with me hysterically crying because she did not have the money to buy her parents an iPad for Christmas. I was trying to understand why she thought her parents would care if she bought them such a lavish gift, knowing she was in grad school and short on cash. Hoping to shift her perspective and knowing the answer, I asked her to honestly think about what kind of a daughter she is on a daily basis. “Are you kind, respectful, loving and thoughtful most of the time?”

Because, ultimately, that is what life is truly about: how we treat people day in and day out, not just when a special occasion rolls around.

I am not implying that giving and receiving presents is “bad.” I am suggesting there are deep and lasting gifts that you can consciously choose to give every day of the year, that are totally free. For example, you can be understanding, forgiving, listen actively, and remember what people tell you. You can pick up the phone to check in when you know someone is struggling or engage an elderly grandparent in a conversation by asking them questions about their life and then generously listening for as long as they talk, even if you have heard the story a zillion times. You can admit when you’re wrong and apologize promptly. You can handwrite letters of gratitude to those you love and send them though the mail (few things are more exciting than getting an actual letter like in the good ol’ days!). These are just a few ideas of gifts from your heart that add lasting value and create joy for the receiver as well as the giver.
If you are tired of your holiday experience being too focused on stuff, I challenge you to do it differently this year. Concentrate on how kind, generous and present you can be during the holidays. Set your intention on bringing light to others (and yourself) this season without spending a ton of money.
I would love to hear your ideas of ways to give from the heart, so please share your thoughts here.
Remember, the best gifts in life are (mostly) free.

We bring an energetic blueprint into this life.

Written By Danielle LaPorte
You can clock the hours, give it your all, play by the rules. You can create the smartest, slickest, artful something that can be made. You can be the best guy for the job. And after that — after you show up fully, then karma is going to kick in. Or The Fates, G-d, Angels, Destiny, Luck, Divine Energy, The Personal Beliefs That Engineer Your Reality. Call it what you want, there is a force operating beyond the material plane that’s impervious to worldly success formulas.
Take Harry Potter. There have been magical children’s series created before, just as good but uncelebrated. Or Fifty Shades of Grey — hardly the first erotica to get women wet. Or the year Esperanza Spalding, an unknown jazz bassist player, beat out Justin Beiber for the Best New Artist Grammy. Underdogs who soar; right place, right time; came out of nowhere.
Then there’s these less pleasant dynamics: can never seem to get ahead; bad timing; so talented but…
For every big hit that we see, whether it’s a book, an Oscar winner, our co-worker’s promotion, or the runaway trend of the season, there are hundreds of other products, creations, and people just as meritorious and awesome. When I look at the phenomenon of Fifty Shades of Grey, I don’t see luck (because I don’t believe in luck.) And I don’t think that its success is about filling a cultural need, or simply good timing. I look at it and think, She’s got some damn good karma. And I’m happy for her.
We bring an energetic blueprint into this life. It can trump our sweat-pouring diligence, as well as against-all-odds circumstances. It influences our reality.
The good news is that we can choose to erase some old structures in ourselves, re-jig our karma, smash down a few limiting belief systems, but the first step is to realize that hard work is only half the equation of success — if that. The rest is energetics.

"Don't let ambition get in the way of LOVE!"

By M. Kipp

As I reflect back on the last ten or so years of my life, I feel a lot of guilt for not coming home so much. I came to L.A. when I was 19-years-old and spent a lot of that time taking action on my ambition. And that lead to a lot of crashing, burning and eventually overcoming.

But something that I did not value as much was family. And now, being 30 and looking back, I am trying to reconcile the almost decade I missed out on with those I love most. And the way that I am reconciling is by making one of my core intentions for the rest of my life to spend more time with my family. There was a period of a few YEARS where we didn't see each other (mostly my doing). I felt that if I left L.A. and came home to Kansas, I would miss out on something important.

And the reality is that I didn't miss out on anything by staying in L.A. during the holidays. Oh wait, yes I did - I missed out on those I loved.

I am so present to how important family is these days. As my heart opens more and more, I see that Love and family are the most important things. And also, I am seeing more and more how fragile life is. I am blessed that both my parents are still alive. And for some time, I think I was in total denial of my own humanity and theirs. But I am present to how fragile and temporary this life is.

So, with that said, my intention moving forward is to soak the marrow out of life by spending more time with them. This means coming back to Kansas more and also, they will be coming out to L.A. more.

In my dream, they end up moving to Cali so I can see them all the time. Who knows if that dream will come true, but I am holding the vision within me that it will.

My work right now is to let go of the guilt I feel for seemingly wasting almost a decade on ambition. I know deep down it was not "wasted" and that everything happens in perfect time... and at the same time, I still feel guilt. And I know that I cannot change the past and my actions. But I can change the future and the actions I take. And perhaps over time that guilt will lessen. Right now, I am in acceptance of it and that is a great first step.

I am also grateful that I am having this awakening while both my parents are still alive. I love them so much and can't believe that I get to design more time to spend with them!! :o)

I can remember growing up and I couldn't WAIT to get to the big city of L.A. And now that I'm there and settled, I see the beauty, the joy, the precious gift that is the love of family from a small town. It's almost like I had to go on this crazy silly adventure to be able to return home and see that what I already had was not only more than enough, but precious, amazing and so rare that it cannot be found anywhere else.

No longer do I take my family for granted or allow my ambition to get in the way of my Love for them. Those days are over.

Is there anything you are taking for granted that you could flip around and see how amazing it is?

As always, the action happens over on the BLOG; head on over there and leave a comment on my blog "Don't let ambition get in the way of LOVE!" and join in the conversation! The TDL Community thrives in the comments and it's a GREAT place to get support!

Llive the life which you imagine.

"I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws will be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings."

'For Sale B􀁜 Owner' founder sells his home... using a real estate broker

Colb􀁜 Sambrotto, w ho founded a w ebsite for DIY-real estate, just sold his Chelsea apartment for $2.15million

The founder of a website helping people to sell their own homes has found a buyer for his own apartment – with the help of a traditional real estate broker.

ForSaleByOwner.com creator Colby Sambrotto even paid the standard 6% commission after selling his two-bedroom New York condo for $2.15 million.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Mr Sambrotto spent six months trying to sell the apartment in trendy Chelsea through online listings and classified adverts.

But the DIY home selling guru eventually decided to turn the sale over to a professional.

Not only did broker Jesse Buckler set the price $150,000 higher than the original asking price, he went on to lure the elusive buyer Mr Sambrotto􀂶s self-help methods had

failed to attract.

The Journal said the 2,000-square-foot apartment at The Lion􀂶s Head building near Sixth Avenue is now under contract.

Practice w hat 􀁜ou preach? Mr Sambrotto couldn't sell his house b􀁜 himself - despite making a fortune b􀁜 advocating for the method

Mr Buckler claimed the owner wasn􀂶t asking enough for the apartment and was consequently attracting the right buyers.

Broker Jesse Buckler encouraged Mr Sambrotto to increase the asking price of the apartment as a sales strateg􀁜

􀂵At first he wouldn't let me increase the price,􀂶 said Mr. Buckler. 􀂵I told him I know what I am doing—the market is picking up.􀂶

Mr Sambrotto bought the apartment for $2 million in 2007, a year after he sold his ForSaleByOwner.com website at the height of the real estate boom.

He told the Journal that he still believed in owner sales and discounted commissions, but added: 􀂵The apartment market in Manhattan was tightly controlled by agents.'

'So many buyers don't even bother to do a search online.􀂶

Undeterred, he is now planning to launch a new sale by owner website, called USRealty.com.

Fans of the DIY method point to past successes, even in broker-controlled Manhattan.

Edgar Bronfman Jr., chief executive of the Warner Music Group, sold an East 64th Street town house four years ago for $50 million without paying any commission.

Last month, a 69th Street town house was sold by its owner for $48 million.
