Being young is a state of mind

Being young is a state of mind.  It’s simple but not easy.  Please, just stop thinking about the future in worrisome ways, stop thinking about what you don’t have and start seeing what you do.  Stop fretting over would’ve, could’ve and should’ve because all you can do is control right now.  The past is gone so stop repeating it in your head and stop obsessing about the mistakes you made and the opportunities you missed.  The mistakes you made (hopefully) taught you something and if you are enlightened enough to realize a mistake right after it happened, well then go back and fix it a.s.a.p.! Otherwise shut your yap and move forward. Each day holds the same amount of risk and potential as it did the day before.  The only difference between then and now is now you have experience for comparison …you have perspective and now it’s a decision on how you want to file it. You can choose to put it in a box and call it your regrettable past or you can choose to see the progress you have made since you were ‘that’ other person. You can choose how you want to perceive it; are you listening? You choose. You choose who you want to be each and every day with the words you use, the thoughts you have the books you read, the shows you watch, the people you surround yourself with and the actions you take. Perception is reality and what you tell yourself each and every day determines the happiness level you will achieve ~ they are directly and proportionally related. Happiness like anything else is perfected with practice. Happy people feel young; attract the young and other new and wonderful things to them through positive energy.  Each of you has this ability, but it requires focus and effort.  Like anything worth having, it’s worth working for.  You are not your bad habits. You can change your bad or passive habits little by little. How you ask?  You will know when you are growing in a positive way when you can step out of your comfort zone to contribute to something bigger than yourself, when you feel the tension of irritation from turning off your favorite show and instead read a book or call an elderly aunt or strike up a conversation with a neighbor that everyone else avoids. The decisions you make today create the future you want.  Simple not easy.  You want to be in better health?  Drink water, not pop. There’s your first step. Stop watching shows that pollute your mind, get more sleep. Laugh. The moment by moment choices you make ad up to extra years of joyful health down the road.  Life’s a decision to be a friend, to be a good neighbor, to smile at a stranger, to encourage a child to be role models to all those you come in contact with.  Acting young and being young are a state of mind; they are the state of a happy mind.
